Sunday, September 30,
2007 (Loves Park, IL) – For a lot of racers, a win is more satisfying when
they pass cars to win, rather than start up front and lead all the laps. Jeremy
Lepak had that kind of a run today as he moved from his 12th starting position
to take home his second consecutive National Short Track Championship at the
Rockford
Speedway. Also, Mike Lloyd held off Ricky Bilderback to win the Del Taco Feature
Winners Invitational.
A field of 25 cars started the 200-lap main event on the final day of the 42nd
Annual National Short Track Championship weekend.
Mike Beyer, who was not feeling well, looked strong in the early going as the
leader with Eddie May and Bobby Wilberg right on his back bumper.
Brad "JJ" Mueller, who started 13th, was working his way to the front until he
spun in turns three and four on lap 11 while trying to past Pete Moore. Mueller
re-joined the field at the back of the pack.

<--- Kid Mueller Loops
Beyer's illness would get the best of him as he fell off the pace on lap 35 and
would call it a day, handing the lead over to May.
May held off a few challenges from Bobby Wilberg and hold on to the lead at the
halfway break. Steve Rubeck was running third with Jerry Gille in fourth. Adam
Royle rounded out the top five. Defending champion Jeremy Lepak was running
sixth with fast qualifier Dan Lensing in seventh. Brian Johnson Jr. was eighth
with Larry Schuler in ninth. Josh Bauer rounded out the top ten. Mueller
recovered from his earlier spin to move back to eleventh.
May continued to lead at the start of the second half of the 200-lap event. Josh
Bauer fell off the pace on lap 118 when his window net came down. He would go
down four laps after his repair.
It got a little scary in the top five on lap 121 when Adam Royle got loose going
into turn three, his right front tire would go down and as he was trying to get
around the track he went into the wall in turns one and two collecting Jeff Way.
On the re-start, Rubeck would get by Wilberg for second with Gille following
Rubeck for third.
Mueller's charge towards the front came to a halt on lap 133 when he appeared to
have a tire go down after he and Lepak made contact coming off of turn four. He
made hard contact with the turn one wall. Bauer was also collected causing both
of the Random Lake, WI residents to be done for the day.

<--Heavy Contact
On the re-start, Lepak started to make his charge to the front. On lap 149, he
would get past Wilberg for fourth with Lensing in tow. Seven laps later, he
would get past Gille for third. Then he would get on the inside of Rubeck for
second on lap 165. Two laps later, Rubeck's left front tire would go down and he
was done for the day.
Lepak made his bid to the top of the leader board on lap 168 as he went on the
inside of May for the lead. "I had the four barrel and I saved the right rear to
the end to where I had the power to use the bottom near the end," Lepak stated
after the race.
Lepak would take over the top spot on with 31 laps to go and pull away from the
rest of the field.
Lensing started to show is muscle in the last 30 laps. With 26 laps to go,
Lensing was on the inside of Schuler for position when the two made contact
causing Lensing's right side to get airborne. He would try to gather his car up
but spun as he came out of turn two in the infield. Lensing would re-join the
rear of the field and he quickly charged his way back to the front.
With 12 laps to go, Gille and Lensing would get past May for second and third
respectively. A lap later, the final caution of the day would fly on lap 189 as
May and Campbell would spin in turns one and two.
On the re-start with eight laps to go, Lepak would pull away while Gille had to
hold off a charging Lensing.
At the checkers, it was Lepak scoring his second straight National Short Track
Championship win with Gille holding off Lensing for second. Pete Moore, who
started 18th, came home with a strong fourth place finish. 1984 NSTC Champion,
Al Schill, made a great return with a fifth place finish.

MUELLER WINS BOB FISH LABOR DAY SPECIAL 100!!!
By:Dangerous Dan Margetta
(Slinger, WI) Sept. 2 —Brad Mueller drove to his second feature victory of the season in the Bob Fish Pontiac Buick GMC Labor Day Special 100-lap late model main event Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway.
“Wow!” Mueller exclaimed upon exiting his car in Victory Lane. “It has been a long time and I’m very, very happy.”
Mueller led a total of 88 laps after using the outside lane to take the lead from Al Schill on lap 12, and then maintained his advantage over Lowell Bennett as the laps wound down.
“I was holding back a little bit after we got a 11 7/8ths car-length lead,” Mueller continued. “I kind of idled back a little bit because I’ve been known to fry the right rear tire off these things, so I thought I would play it safe and well, it worked out tonight.” "Fuel Prices also came into my mind".
Tommy Pecaro paced the beginning laps with Schill using the inside to move into second place while Mike Strupp claimed third over Mueller and Race McComb. The car of Jacob Goede looped around in turn two after racing hard for a spot in the top ten on lap four, drawing the caution flag as the field slowed abruptly to avoid the incident. Several cars left the track for repairs and all were able to return with the exception of fast qualifier Nick Schumacher who retired from the event after sustaining damage in the wreck.
Pecaro chose the inside line for the restart, leaving the outside to Schill which he used to his advantage to rocket into the lead as racing resumed. Mueller also used the top lane to work is way into third place while Bennett, Strupp, and Eric Fransen followed behind him. By lap nine, Mueller had pulled alongside Pecaro for second, once again working the outside lane, and as the two cars exited turn four side by side, Pecaro’s car broke loose and he spun to the infield as the race remained under the green flag. Once into second, it took just three laps for Mueller to track down Schill and make the move for the lead, taking to the outside to make the pass on lap 12. Bennett was on the march as well and he too used the top lane to race his way into second place on lap 16, leaving Schill to battle with Strupp, Fransen, and David Prunty.
The remainder of the race ran caution-free despite numerous single car spins as Mueller maintained about a half straightaway advantage over Bennett, who appeared to be able to close slightly once the leaders were free of lapped traffic. Behind the leaders, Strupp was able to power his way into third place, a spot he was able to keep despite suffering a momentarily setback when his car appeared to slow suddenly on the backstretch near lap 70 before regaining momentum and continuing on.
Mueller ran a steady pace in the late stages and raced to the win as Bennett was unable to seriously challenge for the lead, taking the checkered flag in second place. Strupp wrapped up a very strong run with a solid third place finish while John Mueller parlayed a late race charge into a fourth place result. David Prunty took the checkered flag in fifth place, ahead of Fransen and Matt Kocourek. Conrad Morgan came home with an eighth place finish ahead of Tony Strupp, who was ninth, and Jacob Goede recovered from the early spin to post a tenth place finish in his Slinger debut.
Collin Bamke won the 30-lap late model semi-feature over Fred Winn and Mike Egan while Brian Johnson Jr. and Randy Schuler were fourth and fifth respectively. Jerry Eckhardt took top honors in the 15-lap late model consi over Larry Epright and Ron Ragan while George Olson and Kelsey Bauer rounded out the top five. Brad Mueller was the winner of the late model fast dash and Nick Schumacher was the fastest qualifier at 11.493 seconds.
